I Heard That Cry
Michael Hugh Dixon, Greg Van Der Struik & Ed Diefes
The gorgeous resonance of brass in Just intonation.
The primal cry of a baby that demands attention. A poem by Chryssy Tintner inspired a short work for for horn, trombone and tuba using a few blues notes, flat 7ths and neutral 3rds (neither major, nor minor). The music is a twist on a 12 bar blues structure, but here as a 25 bars with each segment of 5 bars repeated in a way to make 50 bars. I may have forgotten the baby's cry when writing the music and imagined the sound of a crow, or a magpie or a currawong, all of which visit our backyard from time to time.
